Artist Statement-- It's like E.T., you don't how it behaves, you don't know how to communicate. All you can do is to reach out.
This project aims to explore interaction and communication between human and artificial intelligence. We constructed a robotic arm which are programmed to react with surrounding human hands (detection using Leap Motion). The behaviour of the arm tries to simulate a living creature which exhibits some degree of autonomy and randomness apart from a mechanical action-and-reaction mechanism. Even though the arm is programmed to react in a specific manner in response to a certain hand gestures, participants are expected to discover such rules through experience. It's like training a pet.
